The Mattoon Pride softball teams recently donated $3,000 to the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Foundation following a fundraiser to support breast cancer awareness.
The teams sold more than 400 pink t-shirts during a softball tournament hosted by Mattoon Pride. Net proceeds from the fundraiser were ear-marked to support Illinois Breast & Cervical Program (IBCCP), a program to provide free, routine mammograms and cervical screenings to uninsured women.
The Pride’s mission is to provide area girls the opportunity to play fast-pitch softball at the highest level of competition possible, through guidance and experience, with an emphasis on sportsmanship, character and fun. Mattoon Pride teams compete in tournaments throughout the Midwest.
“The organization worked hard to sell shirts and raise funds for breast cancer awareness,” stated Coach Wade Bradley. “I am very proud of our group and of all the participating teams that helped raised funds for the cause. Our girls were able to learn the value of raising and donating funds to those in need.”
