Laboratory Services

The Laboratory performs quality testing in microbiology, blood bank, hematology, chemistry, cytology, histology, urinalysis, immunology, coagulation, molecular and serology. Employing experienced phlebotomists, ASCP-certified clinical lab scientists and technicians, and board-certified pathologists, the lab processes more than 1 million tests and 10,000 surgical and cytology specimens each year. The lab ensures the highest level of proficiency in the testing of these specimens by adhering to strict standards set by The Joint Commission and CLIA. For specimens requiring additional testing or consultation, the lab maintains relationships with ARUP Laboratories, Mayo Medical Labs, and other approved reference laboratories to guarantee high-quality and timely results.

The Sarah Bush Lincoln Laboratory is a vital part of the hospital and patient care, and an important part of the community. To that end, the laboratory sponsors an active educational outreach program including visits by lab personnel to local schools, job-shadowing programs, phlebotomy instruction with Lake Land College, participation in the hospital’s high school Health Occupation classes, and a Science Lab program to provide schools in our region with tools and resources promoting interactive and hands-on learning in the classroom. Lab employees also participate enthusiastically in the charitable and philanthropic activities of the hospital including sponsorship of multiple blood drives for Community Blood Services of Illinois and Combined Appeal support for SBL programs and United Way activities, partnerships, and community organizations.
